What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is an incredibly beneficial and in-demand aesthetic treatment. Unlike chemical or laser peels, dermaplaning is a completely non-surgical and gentle exfoliation treatment. It works by using a surgical scalpel held at an angle to “shave” the surface of the skin. This process removes dead and damaged skin cells as well as fine “peach fuzz” vellus hairs. It leaves behind smooth, clear skin and stimulates the growth of healthy new skin for a brighter, more luminous look.
Benefits of Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a very versatile and easy way to achieve better skin. It can be incorporated into virtually any patient’s regular skincare and anti-aging regimen. Some of the top benefits include:
- Removal of surface debris for a smoother feel and brighter look
- Diminished fine lines and wrinkles
- Enhanced absorption of active ingredients
- Smoother makeup application
- Reduced breakouts and congestion
- Increased luminosity
- Minimal downtime
Dermaplaning can easily be combined with many other aesthetic treatments like chemical peels, facials, or DiamondGlow. Because of its minimal downtime and side effects, however, it can also be performed on its own – especially as a quick boost for your skin ahead of a big event.

Who is a Candidate for Dermaplaning?
Because dermaplaning doesn’t use any harsh products or ingredients, it’s safe and effective for virtually any skin type and tone. Patients who aren’t otherwise good candidates for other treatments like chemical peels can benefit from dermaplaning. However, if you have active acne or other skin conditions, dermaplaning may not be a good option.
Dermaplaning is a quick and easy treatment that doesn’t require any anesthetic. To begin, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. Then, your provider will apply a surgical scalpel to the skin. This does not cut the skin, but rather gently “shaves” away the dead skin cells and fine hairs. You may feel a light scraping sensation, but it does not hurt. Once the whole face is treated, a serum is applied with targeted active ingredients based on your skincare goals. Moisturizer and sunscreen are also applied, and you can go about the rest of your day.
You may have some slight redness and irritation after dermaplaning, but you will notice an instant brighter and smoother quality to your skin. You should keep your skin moisturized and protected with SPF 30+ after treatment, and avoid exfoliating your skin with scrubs or active ingredients. You should also avoid hot environments like hot tubs or saunas, as well as any harsh skincare products.
Dermaplaning typically produces results for 2-3 weeks, at which point you can return for another treatment. Dermaplaning is an excellent monthly treatment to maintain glowing skin and continually treat specific concerns. We can create a detailed treatment schedule based on your unique needs during an appointment.
