What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive, chemical-free skin rejuvenation treatment for fine lines, acne scars and overall skin enhancement. During the procedure, numbing cream is applied and tiny needles are used to create a safe, controlled skin injury to produce new collagen and elastin. The skin then undergoes its natural repair process, improving texture and firmness, and reducing scars, size of pores, and stretch marks. At Clear Dermatology & Aesthetics Center, we utilize the SkinPen, the first FDA-cleared microneedling device clinically proven to treat acne scarring. This device is an automated pen with a sterile, single-use tip. The pen features adjustable needle depth that allows us to customize your treatment plan to each specific area of your face.
Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) or “Vampire Facial” is a variation of the microneedling process in which the PRP from your blood is applied to your skin during the treatment. The growth factors from the PRP utilize your own body’s healing ability to stimulate skin recovery and boost collagen production. Studies have shown that microneedling used in conjunction with PRP can have a five-fold increase in collagen production compared to that of microneedling alone. One of our providers at clear dermatology can discuss the benefits of microneedling with and without PRP and help you create a treatment plan to achieve your desired results.

FAQs
What are the benefits of microneedling for acne scars?
Microneedling helps reduce the appearance of acne scars by stimulating collagen production, which smooths skin texture and encourages healing over time.
Is microneedling safe for sensitive skin?
Yes, microneedling can be safe for sensitive skin when performed by experienced dermatology professionals using medical-grade equipment tailored to your skin type.
How does microneedling compare to laser skin resurfacing?
Microneedling is less invasive than laser treatments, involves minimal downtime, and is generally better suited for darker skin tones or those prone to hyperpigmentation.
Does microneedling help with large pores?
Yes, microneedling can minimize the appearance of enlarged pores by encouraging collagen production and thereby tightening the surrounding skin.
Are at-home microneedling devices as effective as in-office treatments?
At-home rollers offer minimal results and carry higher risk of skin damage or infection. Professional microneedling delivers deeper, safer, and more visible outcomes.
What should I do before my microneedling appointment?
Avoid sun exposure, retinoids, and anti-inflammatory medications (like ibuprofen) for 24–48 hours before treatment to minimize bruising, sensitivity and enhance results.
Can microneedling improve skin texture and tone?
Absolutely. Microneedling promotes smoother skin by improving both texture and tone through the natural healing process and increased collagen formation.
How long should I wait between microneedling treatments?
Typically, treatments are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to give the skin ample time to heal and regenerate between sessions.
Where is the best place to get professional microneedling in Scottsdale, AZ?
Clear Dermatology is a trusted provider of professional microneedling treatments in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, offering safe, effective care with proven results.
Can microneedling effectively reduce dark circles under the eyes?
Yes, microneedling can be an effective treatment for reducing dark circles under the eyes. The treatment uses tiny needles to make micro-punctures in the skin. This process boosts collagen production, fills in hollows under the eyes, thickens the skin, and reduces the appearance of dark circles.
How does microneedling help brighten the underu2011eye area and diminish dark circles?
Microneedling can brighten the under-eye area and reduce the appearance of dark circles by stimulating new collagen and elastin. This thickens the skin to reduce the visibility of blood vessels and reduce the darkness under the eyes to give you a brighter look.
Is microneedling under the eyes safe for treating dark circles and hollowing?
Absolutely! Microneedling is completely safe for treating dark circles and hollowing, especially when performed by a licensed professional, like our team at Clear Dermatology. You may have some swelling or bruising after treatment, but those side effects will subside relatively quickly.
Should microneedling for dark circles under the eyes be combined with PRP or dermal fillers?
Microneedling for dark circles can be easily combined with PRP or dermal fillers for more significant results. Whether this combination of treatments is right for you will depend on your unique concerns and the results you’re looking for. The fillers can address volume loss and fill in hollows, while PRP can boost collagen production and promote natural skin regeneration.
What is the recovery time after microneedling under the eyes for dark circles?
There is very little recovery time after microneedling for under-eye dark circles. After 24-48 hours, any swelling and redness will have subsided. Full healing time typically takes about a week, but it can take several more weeks to see results. You can typically go back to your normal activities immediately.
What are the potential side effects of microneedling under the eyes when targeting dark circles?
Some of the most common side effects of microneedling under the eyes include swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising. You may also notice some flaking and itchiness. All these side effects are usually temporary.
How long do results last for dark circles treated with microneedling under the eyes?
After a series of microneedling treatments, you can expect the results to last for a year or more. It can depend on your age, skin type, and certain lifestyle habits. You will need maintenance treatments to keep up your results.
Can I wear makeup after a microneedling session?
You should avoid wearing makeup for at least 48 hours after treatment to allow your skin to properly heal and reduce the risk of irritation or infection.
How many microneedling sessions are needed to see improvement in dark under eye circles?
Typically, we recommend 3-6 microneedling sessions for dark under-eye circles. These sessions should be spaced several weeks apart. That said, the number of sessions you need will depend on your unique needs.
What causes dark under eye circles, and how does microneedling address them?
The causes of dark under-eye circles can vary. Some of the most common causes include genetics, allergies, fatigue, and sun exposure. By stimulating collagen and elastin production, microneedling thickens the skin to improve the skin tone and texture, reduce the visibility of blood vessels, and restore lost volume.
Who is a good candidate for under eye microneedling to treat dark circles?
Almost all patients who are struggling with dark circles are good candidates for microneedling. That said, we recommend patients be in good overall health, have realistic expectations of treatment, not have any active skin infections, and not be pregnant or breastfeeding.
How many treatments will I need?
While each patient will have different results depending on their individual concerns, it is recommended to have a series of at least three treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
Does microneedling hurt?
Most patients are very comfortable during the treatment. Prior to the treatment, a numbing cream is applied to the face which makes the procedure easy to tolerate.
What can I expect after my treatment?
The area treated will likely be very red, like a bad sunburn, for 2-3 days following your treatment. During this time, it is recommended that you use strict sun protection, and avoid any harsh products and make-up. Only gentle cleansers and moisturizers should be used while your skin heals. After the 2-3 days, your normal routine can be resumed, but any Vitamin C products should continue to be avoided until a week post-procedure.
When will I see results?
Most patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of the next several weeks as the new collagen begins to grow. Results continue to improve up to six months after treatment as collagen production continues.
